Constructed unity: 30 years since the Wall came down

The former State Council Building of the GDR in Berlin’s Mitte district is an important monument to the division of Germany. And its history even holds a hint of irony: Today, behind the glass facade with its motifs from the history of the workers’ movement stroll prospective capitalists—students at the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT). The landmarked stained-glass picture and the entire building complex were refurbished and converted for use by the ESMT by HOCHTIEF between 2003 and 2005.
