AN IDEA BECOMES AN INTERNATIONAL TREND
A selection of PPP projects around the world
Cooperation between public authorities and private companies has become a model that is being implemented all over the world in order to realize and finance major infrastructure projects. Public-private partnerships (PPPs) are being established to build highways, bridges, tunnels, rail links, schools, military bases, police stations, and city halls. The initial investments are recouped by the facility’s subsequent operation, which is often licensed to the private company for two to three decades. After that, the public authority once again takes on responsibility for the facility’s operation. In other words, the facility is not privatized. In countries including Canada, Chile, New Zealand, and the Netherlands, the companies of the HOCHTIEF Group have realized more than 50 PPP projects, over 20 of them in Germany alone.
